About Us
A Neurodiversity Affirming Occupational Therapy Practice
Our Story
Bumble Bea Occupational Therapy is a Neurodiversity-Affirming Practice offering mobile therapy services for children aged 2–12 years across Melbourne’s South Eastern Suburbs.

We provide outreach visits within your child’s natural environments — including the home, school, childcare, or kindergarten to support meaningful engagement in everyday life. Working within familiar settings allows us to build on your child’s existing routines, relationships, and interests, making therapy more effective. Research shows that children learn best in the environments where they live, play, and interact daily.

Our practice specialises in working with neurodivergent children, including autistic children, ADHDers, and children with intellectual disabilities. We use identity-first language in recognition that many people in the neurodivergent community prefer this terminology as it reflects neurodivergence as an integral part of identity, not something separate or negative.
Our Approach
Child-Centred
We recognise that each child is unique and believe in building upon their individual strengths and interests.

Play-Based Therapy
Our therapy is play-based because we understand that children learn best and most meaningfully through play.

Holistic Care
We consider all areas of your child’s development and focus on supporting their whole self; not just their differences.

Evidence-Based Practice
Our interventions are grounded in the latest research and best practices in Occupational Therapy. We are committed to ongoing professional development to ensure your child receives the highest quality care.

Neurodiversity-Affirming Practice
We honour neurodiversity and recognise that neurodivergent children experience the world differently. Our approach respects and embraces them rather than trying to change the child. We focus on supporting their strengths, interests, and identity while providing accommodations that help them thrive without forcing conformity to societal norms and expectations.

“Scientists have recently determined that it takes 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain – unless it is done with play, in which case,
it takes between 10 and 20 repetitions”
Dr. Karyn Purvis
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower children and their families by fostering meaningful connections and collaboration through personalised occupational therapy that honours each child’s unique strengths and differences.

We are committed to providing a safe and trusting environment where clients and families are active partners in the therapy journey, enabling them to reach their full potential and create lasting, positive change in their lives.
